The Lower Hudson Valley Special Education Task Force, a regional affiliate of the New York State Special Education Task Force, is pleased to announce its next training and discussion event, a film screening and discussion of “Including Samuel.”

The presentation will include a  screening of “Including Samuel” and discussion on meaningful inclusion presented by Dan Habib, a filmmaker who will be discussing his film and how make inclusion work for students with disabilities. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act mandates that students with disabilities be educated to the maximum extent appropriate with  typical peers, but too often, students remain overly segregated. The award-winning film portrays the Habib family’s journey to include Samuel in every facet of their lives and have him participate in an inclusive educational program.  It also describes the experience of four other families.  The film captures the cultural and systemic barriers to inclusion. Habib  is also the creator of Who Cares About Kelsey?, a film about serving students with behavior and emotional disabilities and Restraint and Seclusion: Hear Our Stories.

Parents, teachers, special educators, psychologists, school personnel and other professionals are encouraged to attend.
